1. 漢語中的“請(qǐng)隨便吃”,譯成英語不能是 Please eat, 可用Please help yourself.
2. 漢語中的“吃飯”,英語通常用 have 或 take, 其實(shí)也可以用eat, 只是不那么常見。如:
He ate his breakfast quickly. 他快快地吃了早餐。
We have [take, eat] three meals a day. 我們每天吃三餐。
3. 比較 eat up 與 eat out:前者意為“吃完”、“消滅”;后者表示“在外面吃”、“下館子”。如:
Eat up your dinner. 把你的飯吃完。
The flames ate up the forest. 大火把樹林燒光了。
I’m too tired to cook tonight; shall we eat out? 今晚我累得不想做飯了,咱們出去吃飯好嗎?
4. 許多漢語中的“吃”譯成英語不能用eat,如:
Do have one more. 務(wù)請(qǐng)?jiān)俪砸粋€(gè)。
This food tastes good. 這菜好吃。
She’s become used to a vegetarian diet. 她已習(xí)慣吃素。
Let’s talk about it after dinner. 咱們吃完晚飯?jiān)僬勥@事。
He took a lethal dose of sleeping pills. 他吃了致命劑量的安眠藥片。
One evening he asked me to dinner. 有天晚上他邀請(qǐng)我吃晚飯。
She felt much better after taking the medicine. 吃完藥后她感覺好多了。
Do you think they will be back for lunch? 你認(rèn)為他們會(huì)回來吃午飯嗎?
Not a word did they exchange during the meal. 在吃飯時(shí)他們一句話也沒交談。
They have almost (nearly) run out of food. 他們的食品幾乎(差不多)已經(jīng)吃完了。
They had food and clothing sufficient for their need. 他們有足夠的吃穿。
On Saturday afternoons she invited her neighbours to tea. 每星期六下午她都邀請(qǐng)鄰居來吃下午茶。
