1 whoa
wō, hō, hwō
Cowboys say "whoa" when they want their horses to slow down. 所以whoa的第一個意思就是:a command to stop 嘿,慢點。
例句:Whoa, don’t put so much detergent into the washing machine!
Whoa還有另一層意思:an expression of surprise 表示驚奇。
例句:Whoa! You’re scaring me.
2 gee
jē
Gee
"Gee..." is an interjection that shows surprise, wonder, or uncertainty. Sometimes when people say "Gee..." (in a long, drawn out fashion) they are just pretending that they are surprised.
His car broke down? Geeeeee... that’s too bad! I was really looking forward to Professor Johnson’s class!
3 duh
usually with prolonged
When someone says something that you think is very obvious, or asks you a stupid question, you can say "duh".
Duh! The lights are on and there are people inside.
4 Oh, Boy
"Oh, Boy!" is a common American expression that really has nothing to do with boys at all.
Oh boy
Oh, Boy! Look at that. There is someone selling cotton candy. I love cotton candy.
Oh boy既可以指讓人高興的事,也可以指you are concerned or dismayed about something 讓人擔心的事,這完全取決于說話的語氣。
例句:A: Guess what? We first got a flat tire, and now my cell phone is dead. B: Oh, boy! 唉!
5 oh well
"Oh well" is use to show mild regret. We also use it to tease people or pretend that you are upset.
Did you hear, the football team won’t make the playoffs this year. Oh well, that’s too bad.
You’re not going to give me any chips? (teasing) Oh well, I guess I won’t be able to give you a ride home.
