一般說來，冠詞總是放在被它修飾和說明的名詞之前，如a room, a pen；若名詞前帶有定語修飾語，冠詞則放在相應(yīng)的定語之前，如a big room, a nice pen。

但是當(dāng)名詞前的修飾語涉及以下詞語時(shí)，情況會(huì)比較特殊：

1. such a與what a

當(dāng)such和what用于單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞前時(shí)，不定冠詞習(xí)慣上要放在這些詞之后。如：

What a funny story! 多么滑稽的故事！

He’s such an idiot! 他是那樣一個(gè)白癡。

2. rather a與quite a

當(dāng)一個(gè)單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞前有rather或quite修飾時(shí)，不定冠詞習(xí)慣上要放在這些詞之后。如：

It’s rather a pity. 這是相當(dāng)遺憾的事。

Your daughter is quite a beauty. 你的女兒真是個(gè)大美人。

但是，當(dāng)這結(jié)構(gòu)中的名詞還帶有形容詞修飾語時(shí)，則不定冠詞既可放在這些詞語之前，也可放在這些詞語之后。如：

He was rather a [a rather] naughty student. 他是一個(gè)相當(dāng)淘氣的學(xué)生。

由于名詞student前有形容詞naughty的修飾，所以既可說rather a naughty student，也可說a rather naughty student。

3. half a與a half

在通常情況下，我們總是說half a，如：

I need half a kilo. 我需要半公斤(www.yygrammar.com)。

He arrived half an hour ago. 他是半小時(shí)前到達(dá)的。

在美國(guó)英語中，也可說成a half，如說a half kilo, a half hour等。但是，在某些特殊表達(dá)，我們必須要說a half，如要表示“幾個(gè)半……”時(shí)，我們總是說…and a half。如：

I waited for an hour and a half [one and a half hours]. 我等了一個(gè)半鐘頭。
