except與except for的區(qū)別

(1) 在意義上的區(qū)別

except主要用來談?wù)撏惖臇|西，而except for則主要用來談?wù)摬煌惖臇|西，在說明情況后作細(xì)節(jié)上的修正，有時含有惋惜之意。如：

We had a pleasant time, except for the weather. 我們玩得很高興，只是天氣不太好。

(2) 用于句首時的區(qū)別

此時只用except for，不用except。如：

Except for Jim, everyone went there. 除吉姆外，大家都去了。

(3) 兩者可以互換的場合

當(dāng)用于all, every, no, everything, anybody, nobody, nowhere, whole等表示概括性的詞語后面時，兩者可互換。如：

You couldn’t hear anything except (for) the noise of Louise typing. 除了路易絲打字的聲音外，你什么也聽不到。

但是下面一句要用except for，因為其前沒有上面提到的概括性的詞語：

The house was quiet except for the noise of Louise typing. 除了路易絲打字的聲音外，房里安安靜靜的。
